The series concerns urbanisation and affective representations of the metropolitan city of the Athens, Greece.
Athens is the city I was born. I shoot all these important or unimportant, permanent or ephemeral symbols of the city that are dominant features in my visual field, but are depicted in everybody’s consciousness more about their everyday use, than about their visual uniqueness. For me these are totems of urbanity, collective memory, and selfness.
Their photographic transformation, based upon rules; Personal, optical and photogenic, denotes visual upgrade and revelation of this uniqueness. Considering that the above rules comprise a personal “update algorithm”, transformation acquires the character of α construction. It’s product, a mixture of memory/autobiography, visual intelligence and experiential cognition is shaped by the desire to explore the visible and the need to create versions of what it feels living in a metropolis of 5.000.000 inhabitants.
